Blood Type Compatibility: “Live Right 4 Your Type”
- Blood Type (A,B,O,AB) is a powerful genetic fingerprint that individually identifies you.
- Blood Type serves as a genetic record of our ancestors' behaviors and eating habits that still affect our health today.
- It's a story of human evolution
- O = Oldest, top of the food chain, meat eaters
- A = Evolved with agricultural societies
- B = Emerged as humans migrated north into colder, harsher territories
- AB = Result of intermingling among these groups
Blood Type = The Critical Link
- Blood type influences every area of human physiology on a cellular level. It has everything to do with:
- How you digest your food
- Your ability to respond to stress
- Your mental state
- The efficiency of your metabolism
- The strength of your immune system - which controls the detection of viruses, bacteria, and other infections.
- A chemical reaction occurs between blood and the foods we eat.
- Lectins found in all foods have agglutinating properties that make them ‘sticky'.
- When certain lectins are detected by the body as incompatible with your blood type antigens, the lectins target an organ or body system an agglutinate blood cells in that area.
- Agglutination results in compromised system functioning. For example:
- Reduce blood flow to kidneys
- Digestive problems
- Weakened immune system
- Internal Inflammation

The Story of Lectins
Lectins are protein molecules that specifically bind to carbohydrates. Our ABO blood types are actually expressed on many of our cells as carbohydrates. Since our digestive tract is lined with cells that express our blood type, interactions between lectins and our blood type do occur- most often in ways that are deleterious for us. And, since 40% of our immune system is expressed in our digestive tract, these interactions can have profound effects throughout the body.
- Lectins interfere with the immune system and create reactions often mistaken for allergies.
- Lectins block digestive hormones and interfere with protein digestion. Lectins impair absorption of crucial nutrients.
- Lectins activate autoantibody in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Recent research links conditions as varied as rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia to antibodies to dietary lectins.
- Lectins damage the intestinal lining and influence gut permeability.
Several common lectins, in particular, wheat germ agglutinin, are known to bind to the insulin receptor and mimic the hormonal effects of insulin on adipose tissue, an under-appreciated action which can account for why individuals on high carbohydrate diets often have difficulty controlling their weight. Thus, lectin blocking is a safe and rational method for enhancing weight loss. Dr. D'Adamo has developed a product called Deflect® that actually ‘scrubs off' the lectins from these receptors. “Live Right for Your Type” supports research being conducted in the field of Nutrigenomics
- Nutrigenomics is a field of medicine and research which looks at how we can manipulate gene expression through nutritional intervention.
- We all have various inherited gene predispositions for various disease states, however, science now knows that we can manipulate whether that gene ever actually manifests itself by eating foods most compatible for our individual blood types.
- Webster's dictionary defines nutrigenomics as:
“The study of how different foods may interact with specific genes to modify the risk of common chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke and certain cancers. Nutrigenomics also seeks to identify the bioactive molecules in the diet that affect health by altering the expression of genes. the premise underlying nutrigenomics is that the influence of diet on health is related to an individual's genetic makeup”
- The goal of nutrigenomics is to use individualized nutrition to prevent or delay the onset of disease to ultimately achieve optimal health.
- In “Genome: The Story of the Most Astonishing Scientific Adventure of Our Time the Attempt to Map All the Genes in the Human Body” Jerry E Bishop and Michael Waldholz write:
“Genes in and of themselves do not create disease. Only when they are plunged into a harmful environment unique to the individual do they create the outcome of disease.”
- In “Is It In Your Genes?” Philip R. Reilly, M.D. writes:
“Nutritional genetics will be the central theme of wellness programs. Motivated individuals will adhere to diets and consume particular nutraceuticals based on compatibility with their genetic profile and history.” To Learn Even More: Recommended Books:
